Zamacona, the founder of the popular band, died after complications from COVID-19.

MEXICO CITY – José Manuel Zamacona, vocalist and founder of Los Yonic’s, died this Sunday at the age of 69 after complications derived from COVID-19, a disease he contracted even while vaccinated.

The popular interpreter of countless hits, such as “But you are going to regret it” and “Sad words”, was hospitalized at the end of May and from that moment on, his family asked for prayers so that he could recover from the lung damage suffered.

Both the Zamacona Chavarría family and the producer and musical director Alfredo Dussauge confirmed the death of the musician and immediately social networks were filled with messages of condolences and memories to fire the interpreter.

Zamacona’s family and colleagues say goodbye to his remains in the port of Acapulco, Guerrero, a land that more than 50 years ago saw the birth of the tropical romantic music group.

Zamacona is not the first Mexican artist to die from COVID-19 or its aftermath. In past months he was preceded by the master of romanticism Armando Manzanero, Yoshio and Óscar Chávez, “El Caifán Mayor”.

Just on June 26, the musician’s son thanked the prayers for the health of the leader of Los Yonic’s, a band that was formed in the seventies.

“Come on my beautiful daddy, yes you can, many of us are praying for his complete healing. Thanks to everyone for your support. We love you very much, now I realize that we have many sisters and brothers. Thank you for everything, “he wrote on the group’s Facebook profile.
